DJ WHOA-B
myspace | whoa-b.com
Whoa-B's dedication to electronic music began on the dance floor. Going to parties as the rave era (aka the nineties) came to a close he was turned on to the ecstatic vibes of house music. He also found himself drawn to the dark energy of drum & bass. Ultimately, the deciding factor that made him want to pursue djing was the onset of UK Garage. It seemed to combine elements of house, drum & bass, hip hop, reggae, and r&b with eclectic perfection.
As he was building up his record collection, he was also playing bass guitar in a heavy metal band, operating drum machine for a hip hop trio, and pursuing a college degree in audio recording. It wasn't until the UK Garage sound he'd been following evolved into its MC-driven form known as Grime that he got serious about his dj career. In 2004, he adopted the name Whoa-B and became a member of Chicago's Brut Force Family, along with Sushi, Nogunri, and J Courage in an effort to make sure UK Garage, Grime, Dubstep and Bassline were represented in Chicago and throughout the US.
Since then he's had the opportunity to play at numerous events around Chicago as well as out-of-town events from Texas to Boston. Notable works include the "Welcome To Grimerock" mixtape and the somewhat-viral YouTube smash, Whoa-B's "Dubstep Quickmix Video". With nearly 90,000 views, this in itself has been a massive step in the Dubstep movement. These mixes exemplify the high standard which he holds himself to when it comes to upfront selection and fierce mixing ability.
